About Paul
Paul Still has spent his career in Texas courtrooms, learning firsthand what good judging requires. He believes the role of a judge is to listen carefully, apply the law faithfully, and treat every person who comes before the court with fairness and respect.
Paul began his legal career as a law clerk at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, the highest criminal court in the state. Early on, he learned that strong judicial decision-making is built on preparation, patience, and humility, not ego or ideology.
After his clerkship, Paul served as an Assistant District Attorney in Harris County, where he worked closely with law enforcement, emergency responders, and victims. That experience gave him a clear understanding of how the justice system affects real people and why public safety and accountability must always be balanced with fairness and due process.
Paul was later selected to provide legal counsel to judges on the Court of Criminal Appeals, where the court relied on his analysis in some of the most complex and high-profile cases in Texas. His experience spans the full range of criminal law, from misdemeanors to the most serious felony cases.
Now, Paul is ready to bring that experience to the bench. He is committed to serving with integrity, respecting the Constitution, and ensuring that Hays County has a judge who applies the law carefully, consistently, and without bias.
Paul’s Priorities
Accountability to the Law
Judges are bound to follow the law and the Constitution, even when doing so is difficult or unpopular. Paul believes accountability on the bench means applying the law as written, without politics, pressure, or personal agendas influencing decisions.
As judge, he will uphold the rule of law with consistency, restraint, and integrity.
Respect for People and Process
Courts function best when people trust the process. Paul believes respect in the courtroom means listening carefully, maintaining professionalism, and treating every person with dignity.
He will foster a courtroom environment that reflects patience, fairness, and respect for the rights of all parties.
Fair and Impartial Justice
Justice requires neutrality and judicial restraint. Paul believes every case deserves an objective review based on the facts and the law, not who the parties are or how high-profile the case is.
He is committed to ensuring that all individuals are treated fairly and equally under the law.
Protecting Public Confidence
The justice system depends on public trust. Paul believes judges must earn that trust through preparation, ethical decision-making, and consistency.
As judge, he will work to maintain confidence in the courts by being thoughtful, transparent, and disciplined in every decision.
